Big Thief are among the boldest sonic explorers—and most poignant songwriters—of their generation. In a glowing 9.0 review of their Grammy-nominated 2022 album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, their most exploratory yet, Pitchfork hailed the "trip-hop that flickers like busted neon," "country tunes so saturated with fiddle and close harmony," and the odd fact that "someone has been credited with playing icicles." Uncut called it a "landmark."

While that might make it seem as if Big Thief are removed from the world of everyday human concerns, they remain grounded in the intricacies of ordinary life. "Adrianne Lenker sings of shoelaces and mountaintops with equal importance, scraping at the idea that all things—magnificent and minute, cosmic and casual—are connected," Variety writes. Lenker's ear for melody and eye for detail has won her extraordinary accolades—it's not a stretch to hear her as heir apparent to classic songwriting masters like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Leonard Cohen. "We are made of love," she sings on new single "Grandmother." "We are also made of pain."

They return to the Bowl following their 2018 show in support of Father John Misty and Gillian Welch. Chicago rapper and poet Noname—another masterful writer who distills the world's complexities into clear statements of intent—kicks off the night.
