“What a blessing it is that Phil, Bobby and Billy made such concerted efforts to collaborate with so many different musicians of different generations, and how encouraging they were to have us musicians play their songs expressed through our unique identities,” Disco Biscuits keyboard player Aron Magner proclaims, on the afternoon after appearing at the Joy Theater in New Orleans for the Busted Down in Bourbon Street event as a member of Grahame Lesh & Friends, alongside Oteil Burbridge, Daniel Donato, John Kadlecik, John Molo, Kanika Moore, Bill Payne and the Preservation Hall Horns.

The Rolling Stones have continued to steadily tease a new project through more or less discrete means. After wheat-pasted posters in London promoted The Cockroaches, an old Stones alias, and that pseudonymous band quietly released the limited-edition white-label vinyl single “Rough and Twisted” two weeks ago, the conspiracy has gone global, with billboard sightings in cities around the world. Apart from the iconic tongue and lips logo, those signs include phrases like “Fremmede Sprog,” “Vreemde Tongen,” “Dayuhang Dila,” “외국어,” and “Langues Étrangères” – “Foreign Tongues” in foreign tongues. There’s also a QR code, which reportedly links to the band’s Subversive Scents fragrance line.
For the first installment of Rick's Picks we're throwing it back to 2023 at The Peach Music Festival. My Morning Jacket played an epic headlining set on July 1, a beautiful summer night replete with classic MMJ extended jams like "Phone Went West" and "Touch Me I'm Going To Scream Pt. 2," along with classic rock songbook covers like "The Ballad of John and Yoko" and The Rolling Stones' "Happy." It was an apex for the Montage Mountain iteration of the beloved jam festival, leaving an afterglow that the Relix team in attendance felt for months. It feels like high time to "Run It" back.

On Wednesday evening, Grahame Lesh & Friends returned to The Joy Theater in New Orleans for their second and final Busted Down on Bourbon Street performance. The two-night concert series came to an official close after the group of prolific players delivered two sets of Grateful Dead music and associated covers. Last night’s performance amplified the Dead’s Big Easy appeal via songs like “Iko Iko,” a track played over 200 times by the original ensemble and enduring staple of their catalog following its 1977 arrival.
Some rituals never go out of style: a record spinning, the lights low, and a proper Old-Fashioned in hand. Slow & Low is the House of the Proper Old Fashioned, crafted with straight rye whiskey, raw honey, navel oranges, and bitters. No mixing. No measuring. Just pour over ice and press play.
The Devil Drum keeps the rhythm, but the ritual is yours.
Pour. Spin. Enjoy.
