After breaking his leg skateboarding backstage at a show in Virginia this past April, Billy Strings fully returned to the stage over the weekend. The concerts were his first announced gigs in over two months though, as previous reported, Strings sat in with both Primus and Trey Anastasio in his home state of Michigan while he recovered and made a surprise appearance at the 54th Annual Charlotte Bluegrass Festival in Charlotte, MI on June 26, where he joined The Travelin’ McCourys and The Del McCoury Band.

Goose returned to Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center over the weekend, headlining the classic summer shed on both July 3 and 4. The shows marked the third and fourth times the Connecticut-bred jamband had taken the stage at SPAC; they made their debut there almost three years ago on July 7, 2023, their biggest headlining show at the time, and returned to the storied space for two nights this past September.

Wilco continue to highlight material from their beloved collaboration with Billy Bragg, Mermaid Avenue on the road. The Chicago-based group reunited with Bragg for a set of songs off Mermaid Avenue, the three-volume collection of Woody Guthrie lyrics that they set to new music, at their bi-annual Solid Sound festival in North Adams, MA on June 26. The performance marked the first time Bragg had joined the members of Wilco for a full show dedicated to the enduring tracks–and the night featured several bust outs and even a few debuts.

A few years ago, Will Epstein felt it was time to fully embrace his given name. “I was starting to put out music in all the different guises I work in. I’m a saxophone player and I do a lot of improvised music, and I do a lot of film-score work,” the New York-bred, Woodstock, N.Y.-based musician says in February, shortly after the release of his sophomore set for Fat Possum Records, Yeah, mostly. “They all occupy different spaces and different communities of people in my life, but they also all make up who I am—or at least who I purport to be in my output. I wanted them all to be in direct communication with each other and working under different monikers, for everything felt insincere. And the most natural thing was to have everything under my name and accept that this is who I am—this is what I’m doing—and let it live there.”

Last night, Widespread Panic kicked off their first extensive tour in almost a decade at Jackson, WY’s Snow King Amphitheatre. Though the Georgia-bred jamband have continued to host weekend runs about once a month and make festival regular appearances during the past 10 years, the group hasn’t embarked in a multi-city run since 2016. They also haven’t performed in Wyoming since 2013 and their last show show in Jackson itself was almost 20 years ago, when they appeared at the Snow King Amphitheatre on July 19, 2006.

Blues Traveler returned to Morrison, CO’s scenic Red Rocks Amphitheatre over the weekend for their annual July 4th appearance. The New Jersey-bred group first played Red Rocks in September, 14, 1991, on a bill with Widespread Panic and Acoustic Junction and returned over Independence Day the next summer to open for The Allman Brothers Band on July 3 and 4. They performed at Red Rocks once again on July 2 and 3, 1993–as part of the H.O.R.D.E. tour they helped organize–and on July 4th proper the following year. And, since then, Blues Traveler have headlined Red Rocks on July 4 ever summer, with the only exceptions being in 1999, when they were forced to cancel due to health reasons, and in 2020 due to the pandemic. The quintet has often used its Red Rocks show to offer some special surprises as well.

Despite having made his name while living in Brooklyn and LA, Kevin Morby is anything but a coastal elite. Little Wide Open, his eighth record as a solo artist, plays like an ode to the middle of America, where the Kansas City-bred Morby now resides part-time in with his partner, Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield.

On July 1-4 Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country and Molly Strings performed four nights of co-bills in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Over the course of those gigs, the two not only shared the billing but they also took the opportunity to share the stage as well.
