On Thursday, June 5, destiny road led Billy Strings to The Chicago Theatre to revisit his old friends, Widespread Panic. The happenstance was possible as a result of proximity; Strings’ tour pulled into the region ahead of their arrival on the Allstate Arena stage in nearby Rosemont, Ill. [June 6-7], making for a tangible exchange built on a pair of prior intersections, Mempho Fest 2021 and the Ryman in 2019. Last night’s performance continued the ensemble and their guest’s live histories, representing their longest exchange to date.

In 1966, Sly & The Family Stone emerged from San Francisco’s flourishing counterculture with a sound and statement that defied all expectations and fundamentally changed the shape of popular music. Now, the roots of that groundbreaking riot have been unearthed with The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967, the legendary psychedelic soul ensemble’s earliest live recording.

Roger Waters has announced the global theatrical release of his new concert film, This Is Not A Drill – Live from Prague The Movie, via Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Vision. The concert experience will hit cinemas worldwide on July 23. Tickets go on sale June 12 on the artist’s official website, in association with the movie.

On Thursday, June 5, the Pedrito Martinez Group marked their album release at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl, celebrating the arrival of Ilusión Óptica, which officially arrived on streaming sites on May 30, 2025. The concert featured an appearance by LP contributor, known for his Blood Brothers/ Jimmy Vivino musical connection, Bill Murray.

In 1997, the All Good Music Festival & Campout debuted at Wilmer’s Park in Brandywine, Md. Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, Strangefolk, the Gibb Droll Band, All Mighty Senators, The Recipe and Lake Trout were among the artists that promoter Tim Walther invited to the inaugural event. All Good quickly became a Southern staple of the jamband scene, leaving Wilmer’s after three years and relocating to five additional sites through 2015, as it grew in size and stature. It became a goal of certain artists to headline the event, while others aspired just to appear on the bill.

On Wednesday, June 4, WhyHunger–the nonprofit committed to ending the hunger crisis by aiding human rights to nourishing food–held its 50th anniversary during the Annual Chapin Awards Gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City. The spirited occasion presents live performances and a charitable angel, which accounted for over $600,000 in donations by the night’s end.
