For how unabashedly bizarre his music can be, Ty Segall is an affable guy. Settled on an outdoor couch, sipping from a Pacific Coast Highway mug, his measured cadence makes a real case for oceanside life’s tranquilizing effect. At times, that breezy tone is tough to square with his reputation for grinding rock’s cutting edge with a spree of fuzzed out monoliths. But experience has steadied his hand, and by now, he’s got more than enough of it to breathe easy with the throes of his passion.

Both editions are beautifully packaged, mixed and mastered with care, and pressed in limited quantities. Only 500 copies of each are available. If you're chasing the full Gizz experience, don’t miss your shot.

RECAP

Over the weekend, Dave Matthews played a pair of solo sets during the Wildlands Music Festival in Big Sky, Mont. The occasions marked a relatively rare opportunity for the bandleader, who typically takes the stage with his self-titled ensemble or in duo form with collaborator Tim Reynolds, to deliver independent and stripped-down treatments of Dave Matthews Band classics, and selects from his one and only solo LP. During the event, the Seattle resident used the latter portion of his stage times to welcome fellow festival participants, Molly Tuttle, Lukas Nelson, and members of their respective bands to the stage for a slew of sit-ins.

RECAP

Over the weekend, while Dead & Company marked the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary with three nights in San Francisco, a litany of the Dead’s devotees gathered on the other side of their original stomping grounds for The Heart of Town, a star-studded tribute to the group and their immortal music. Presented by the San Francisco Giants and Relix, the concert series united more than 60 storied performers for three enthralling nights of reverent and innovative treatments of the Grateful Dead’s beloved catalog, amounting to the most ambitious statement of the band’s influence ever endeavored on stage.
