Chuck Leavell Joins Widespread Panic at Red Rocks, Unheard History of the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound

Over the weekend, Widespread Panic returned to Morrison, Colo.’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre to continue their tradition of unmissable summer stagings against stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. With their three shows from June 27-29, the storied Southern jam ensemble expanded their record-holding tally to 75 consecutive sold-out performances at the hallowed venue. To mark the occasion, the band packed their setlists with bust-outs, rare covers, live debuts and extended sit-ins from legendary keyboardist Chuck Leavell every night.

On March 23, 1974, the Grateful Dead performed a one-off gig at the famed Cow Palace just outside San Francisco, which was billed as “The Sound Test.” This performance marked the debut of the group’s new audio reinforcement system that would become known as the Wall of Sound. The Dead’s sonic sculpture was scalable in size but at its peak, it stood over three stories high and weighed 75 tons. It encompassed 600 speakers and drew 28,000 watts of power.

Tedeschi Trucks Band have announced a special screening of Learning to Live Together: The Return of Mad Dogs & Englishmen that will feature the artists’ reflections on the unforgettable reunion they arranged. On July 28, members of the Grammy-winning Southern rock ensemble will convene at Tulsa, Okla.’s hallowed The Church Studio, founded by Leon Russell in 1972, with members of the new documentary’s team, including director and producer Jessie Lauter. Following the presentation, the film’s participants will take the stage for an intimate discussion of the story chronicled and the process of bringing it to the big screen. Free tickets are available now on a first-come, first-served basis.

LaMP have announced the addition of five fall 2025 tour dates to their list of summer dates, which cover both the East and West Coasts. The group will begin touring in July and continue through October, performing new music from their recent album, One Of Us, which arrived in March via the Royal Potato Family label as well as selections from their 2020 debut.
