Dolly Parton will release an original song on what would have been her 100th birthday, January 19, 2046. According to ABC news, Parton placed an unreleased track, “My Place in History,” inside a chestnut box at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, TN, with the intention of dropping the number to mark her centennial. Parton is said to have written and recorded the song in 2015, the year DreamMore opened, when she was 69 years old with instructions that the box remain sealed. “My Place in History” lives on a CD, but Parton apparently thought ahead and included a CD player inside the time capsule. The singer also referenced the number in her 2020 book, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, where Parton joked about whether the technology would survive long enough for the plan to work.

Goose made a surprise appearance at college house party in Boulder, CO last night, entertaining a group of students ahead of their sold-out five-night swing through Colorado. The quartet offered a mix of originals and covers, kicking things off with a seamless segue from “The Empress Of Organos” into Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Green River,” the second part of “The Empress Of Organos” and “Thatch.” From there, the musicians paused briefly before moving from “Yeti” into Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks,” the rest of “Yeti” and Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman.” They closed the surprise set with “Animal,” during which, in classic college-party fashion, the police attempted to bust the show, though the band played on.

On Saturday in Nashville, Big Thief’s performance at the Ryman Auditorium took a surprising and satisfying turn. Early on, Adrianne Lenker informed the audience in a welcoming manner, “If you had some hopes of hearing some songs you might know those can be discarded.” She then added, “If you’re all open to it, it could be a really unique night of music.” The trio, which also consists of Buck Meek and James Krivchenia (along with touring bassist Joshua Crumbly) then delivered the 29 songs from the group’s forthcoming album Horsepower.

Toy Factory Project have confirmed their first-ever New Year’s Eve show. The all-star ensemble, which was formed to celebrate the legacy of Marshall Tucker Band co-founder Toy Caldwell, will ring in 2027 with a show at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre on December 31. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 28, with a fan exclusive beginning tomorrow, August 26, and a Fox Theatre presale set for August 27.

Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has occupied his current role for over a quarter century. Prior to his professional association with the group, Lemieux was a Deadhead, taping and trading shows as well as kibbitzing with fellow fans about the music.

Rainbow Body have confirmed their first live appearance. The all-star project, which brings together Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, Soulive’s Eric Krasno, Terrapin Family Band’s Ross James and Circles Around the Sun’s Adam McDougall, will perform at Irvine, CA’s Irvine Bowl on October 23 as part of the Concerts in the Canyon series.

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve stumbled upon the latest pseudonym of Strugill Simpson after putting on Bob Wagner’s solo debut I’ve Been Down. You wouldn’t be totally off base either. The journeyman Vermont guitarist cites Johnny Blue Skies as an influence and managed to get Simpson’s right-hand shredder Laur Joamets to add lead to three tracks, including album-opener “Sad and Lonesome,” the most Simpson-coded of the 10-song set.
