Since 1985, Farm Aid has raised awareness and support for the decline of the family farm through an annual benefit concert hosted by event founders and philanthropic partners Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp. In preparation for the program’s next chapter, the location for the Saturday, September 26, 2026 event has been unveiled, along with the names of participating players who will weave their songs into the occasion’s multi-act tapestry.

In March, Sturgill Simpson logged another radical departure in a long career of pivots with Mutiny After Midnight, his second album as Johnny Blue Skies, now joined in the studio by his road-hardened Dark Clouds band. The alt-country firebrand’s sophomore album under his new moniker was available only on physical formats (save for a temporary YouTube upload), but to celebrate his birthday, the artist finally released the highly acclaimed project on digital streaming platforms.

Big Easy stalwart Cyril Neville has shared an expansive web of memories on social media pertaining to his induction into the Grateful Dead’s tie-dye world of sage and spirit. The retrospective of sorts arrives in tandem with the launch of the artist’s own tour rooted in the Dead’s original music, dubbed Cyril Neville Does The Dead. The five-show run is slated to begin on Thursday, Sept. 10, at SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield, Conn.
Each Tuesday, Play Dead is releasing newly mastered Hi-Res shows from the vault. The latest drop features 4/8/89 Riverfront Arena Cincinnati with Brent shining on a standout version of Blow Away, and 8/18/91 Shoreline Amphitheatre Mountain View, Calif., this time with Bruce Hornsby on the keys. Curated by David Lemieux and mastered by David Glasser, both shows are now streaming in Hi-Res on Play Dead.

Mike Mills and Chuck Leavell will join forces this summer to lead a genre-bending tribute to their home state’s musical heritage at Carnegie Hall. In the storied Stern Auditorium on July 25, the R.E.M. guitarist and the Allman Brothers Band and Rolling Stones keyboardist will join with classical violinist (and Mills’ childhood friend) Robert McDuffie for A Night of Georgia Music, featuring accompaniment from the Orchestra of St. Luke’s conducted by Ward Stare. The one-night-only presentation will survey iconic songs from Georgia across genres and eras, including tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, R.E.M., Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Outkast, The B-52s and more.

Ty Segall has maintained an inexhaustible release schedule for nearly two decades now, and he’s just announced yet another addition to his behemoth catalog with Chrome, his 18th solo studio album. Following last year’s detour into nostalgic pop-rock on Possession, Segall’s latest is billed as one of the garage-psych destroyer’s heaviest records yet, and that comes through on the ripping lead single “Black Paint.” The album is out on Aug. 28 via Drag City, and just for kicks he’ll also drop a new EP, Love Fuzzz, on the same day.

Arriving on Aug. 28 via Fontana, The Beastie Boy’s solo record is the first release from any member of the legendary trio since 2011’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. Alongside the full tracklist and some background on the origins of his long-awaited return, Diamond previewed the project with the third single, “True Colors,” a buzzy, pensive, breakbeat-powered wall of acid rock.
