Sturgill Simpson previewed his forthcoming Johnny Blue Skies & The Dark Clouds tour last night during a surprise, nearly three-hour show at Nashville’s 200-person The Cobra. Tickets to the pop-up performance were only $25 and available at the door.

Goose made a surprise appearance at college house party in Boulder, CO last night, entertaining a group of students ahead of their sold-out five-night swing through Colorado. The quartet offered a mix of originals and covers, kicking things off with a seamless segue from “The Empress Of Organos” into Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Green River,” the second part of “The Empress Of Organos” and “Thatch.” From there, the musicians paused briefly before moving from “Yeti” into Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks,” the rest of “Yeti” and Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman.” They closed the surprise set with “Animal,” during which, in classic college-party fashion, the police attempted to bust the show, though the band played on.

Dolly Parton will release an original song on what would have been her 100th birthday, January 19, 2046. According to ABC news, Parton placed an unreleased track, “My Place in History,” inside a chestnut box at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, TN, with the intention of dropping the number to mark her centennial. Parton is said to have written and recorded the song in 2015, the year DreamMore opened, when she was 69 years old with instructions that the box remain sealed. “My Place in History” lives on a CD, but Parton apparently thought ahead and included a CD player inside the time capsule. The singer also referenced the number in her 2020 book, Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, where Parton joked about whether the technology would survive long enough for the plan to work.

The event will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street. Red Light Management founder Coran Capshaw will receive the evening’s Lifetime Music Industry Award.

Janus Films and Criterion have acquired the North American rights to Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall, a new concert film documenting the Geese frontman’s sold-out solo performance at the famed New York venue in December of 2025.

Two 1960s folk veterans, John Sebastian and David Bromberg, will come together for a special show at Tabor, NJ’s At The Tabernacle on Saturday, September 19. The first installment in the No Strings Attached live conversations series, the night promises that Sebastian and Bromberg will “sit together for an unscripted evening of stories, memories and wisdom from decades on the road.” The event announcement also says, “Expect candid moments, a few surprises and a chance to ask your own questions during the Q&A that follows.” Craig Thatcher will serve as the night’s special guest.

Tedeschi Trucks Band and Alabama Shakes concluded their four-show joint run last night at Cincinnati, OH’s Riverbend Music Center. Alabama Shakes closed yesterday’s concert and invited Tedeschi Trucks Band principals Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks back to the stage during their set for “Time,” a number from this year’s new LP, I Must Be Dreaming.

Little Feat will make their Grand Ole Opry debut next month. The Los Angeles-bred group will appear on the program on September 8, two days before they commence the next leg of their Last Farewell Tour at the Opry’s former home, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. As previously reported, Shovels & Rope have also been added to Little Feat’s September 14 and 15 appearances at Charleston, SC’s Charleston Music Hall.

Robert Randolph and St. Vincent have joined the lineup for the 2026 Dinner & Concert Benefit slated to be held at New York’s SummerStage in Central Park on September 10. As previously reported, Preservation Hall Jazz Band will serve as the house band for the evening, which will honor Joe Killian with SummerStage Icon Award and Alex Blavatnik with City Parks Foundation’s Icon Award. Steve Jordan will act as musical director and additional surprise guests are expected.
