Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has occupied his current role for over a quarter century. Prior to his professional association with the group, Lemieux was a Deadhead, taping and trading shows as well as kibbitzing with fellow fans about the music.

Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Future Soul Tour has been in the Midwest as of late with Alabama Shakes. On Saturday night in Noblesville, IN, the TTB kicked off the first of four nights with the group. Then on Sunday the two bands were at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, MO. Last evening they made their way to Acrisure Amphitheater in Grand Rapids, MI.

In a 1972 interview, Jerry Garcia shared his enthusiasm for Dolly Parton. He identified Parton to Ed McClanahan as “my favorite girl singer.” Then he found Parton’s 1970 album The Fairest of Them All and played both sides of the record for journalist, sharing particular enthusiasm for the opening track, “Daddy Come and Get Me.”

This year marks half a century since the self-titled debut LP by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – and nine years since Petty left this plane of existence tragically and far too soon. Mike Campbell was there the whole time, beginning even before the beginning as a founding member of Petty’s first band, Mudcrutch (f.k.a. the Epics). Campbell was every bit the Lennon to Petty’s McCartney – or perhaps vice versa – co-writing many of the band’s most popular songs, and on this July evening, his contributions to the Heartbreakers’ sound were subtly on display as he led his band The Dirty Knobs through an evening’s worth of tunes.

Back in 1983, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton shared vocals on “Islands in the Stream.” The single, which appeared on Rogers' Eyes That See in the Dark album, reached number one the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the Country and Adult Contemporary charts.
