One by One: Wilco and Billy Bragg Announce Mermaid Avenue Live, First Ever Concert in Support of Woody Guthrie Albums at Solid Sound Festival
In the spring of 1995, Woody Guthrie’s daughter contacted Billy Bragg about composing music for her father’s prose–a staggering number of incomplete lyrics, penned from 1939 to 67, that were never recorded. With Bragg on board, he reached out to alt-country newcomers Wilco [Jeff Tweedy’s post-Uncle Tupelo band] to assert their brand of Midwest grit akin to Guthrie’s own Okie status. The collective of contemporary musicians effectively released Mermaid Avenue in 1998, providing listeners with a vehicle to revisit the past through one of folk’s most significant contributors. Now, 28 years after turning over the first volume, Wilco and Bragg will come together for the first time to honor the set live.

Stevie Nicks is a Barbie. And, a sold-out Barbie at that. The doll, created in collaboration with makers Mattel, takes inspiration from the songstress’ Bella Donna era, the first record she released under her own name, which resulted in timeless classics, launched her solo career, and prompted the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers duet, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” the Don Henley featured “Leather and Lace,” “Edge of Seventeen” and country-stained “After the Glitter Fades,” all of which received hit single status between 1981-82.
