Neil Young Performs “Long Walk Home” for First Time Since 1989, Concludes 12-Year Lapse in “Singer Without a Song” Plays at Jones Beach

On Saturday, Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts arrived at Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y., for the latest appearance on the Love Earth Tour. During the second half of the single set performance, Young entered a sonic time machine and transported the crowd to the late ‘80s, where he revived the Life track, “Long Walk Home,” for the first time in 36 years. On the way back to the present day, the bandleader paused in 2013, picking up “Singer Without a Song,” and effectively ending a 12-year lapse in plays.

On Thursday night, Widespread Panic began their three-night siege of MGM Music Hall at Fenway Park in Boston. Guitarist Julian Lynch has announced that he will leave Real Estate following their upcoming dates on the road with Tennis. Lynch joined the indie-rock outfit in 2016, after co-founding guitarist Matt Mondanile was fired from the group due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

Last week, Umphrey’s McGee turned in a series of rarities which were revived during the Midwest arrival of their Cruising Altitude Tour at Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines, Iowa. Over the weekend, they remained in the region, where they traded bust-outs for debuts, reviving both concerts, August 22, at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, and August 23’s stand at Driftless Music Gardens in Hillsboro, Wis., with new material that also doubled as first-time covers.
