On January 10, just prior to taking the stage in Ann Arbor with his Pan-Detroit Ensemble, Don Was received some devastating news. “About 30 minutes before the show, I got the call about Bobby,” he reveals. “Since we had announced that we were going to play all of Blues for Allah in the middle of our show for the whole tour, we had drawn a lot of Grateful Dead fans. So I had to go out and tell them that Bobby was gone, which put a real different vibe on the thing.”

Produced by Billy Strings and T Bone Burnett, So Much For Goodbyes, a 16-track set, finds Strings “channeling a deeply personal period into his most musically mature and reflective body of work to date.” Strings’ mother, Debra Apostol, who passed away in 2025 due to an accidental overdose, is responsible for the album’s artwork.

Bob Dylan continues to switch up his band. As previously reported, jazz guitarist Julian Lage has been playing with the group ever since a performance at the Santa Barbara Bowl on June 17. Lage stepped in for Doug Lancio, who had been on the road with the Rough and Rowdy Ways World Wide Tour since it kicked off in November of 2021. However, Lage’s tenure with Dylan appeared to be short-lived from the start–or at least contain one notable conflict–since the guitarist had a previously scheduled show at Brooklyn, NY’s National Sawdust yesterday.

This live 2-LP vinyl features 10 interpretations captured across DelFest 2025 (May 22–25, 2025), in Cumberland, MD. The result is a front-to-back journey of Grateful Dead covers filtered through Appalachia, high-lonesome harmonies, and hot-rod string band energy, mixed to be played loud.

When Primus unexpectedly parted ways with their drummer shortly before New Year’s Eve a year and a half ago, bassist/singer Les Claypool quickly pivoted, pulling together several of the oft-intertwined projects he’s focused on during the past 30 years for two highly collaborative shows at Oakland, Calif.’s The Fox Theatre. The concerts, billed as Claypool Gold, worked and this spring and summer the bassist has been taking the concept on the road, performing distinct sets with his refreshed Primus lineup, the improvisationally heavy Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade and The Claypool Lennon Delirium, who recently released their third LP, The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy.
