After teasing it via socials, Billy Strings has released a new single from his forthcoming album So Much for Goodbyes. He has indicated that the song “is dedicated to the folks back home. It’s a fictional story sing some non-fictional characters and places." The video for “Mill Town Flood” features art and ephemera that Strings has collected over the years. As the video description notes, “The vintage postcards and historical images featured in this video are drawn from the private collection of Billy Strings. Portions of this collection include materials generously shared with him by the Village of Muir, MI."

On Saturday, August 8, Grateful Dead Archivist and Legacy Manager David Lemieux will host and participate in a special event. Lemieux will join the Grateful Dead Run Club for a guided seven-mile run. The organization notes, “At each location, Dave will take us inside the history - the performances, recordings and stories that made New York essential to the Grateful Dead’s journey.”

String Cheese Incident co-founder Bill Nershi will explore a new project with his family members. In 2004, Nershi and his wife Jilian launched their Honkytonk Homeslice project and subsequently released a couple studio albums under that name. More recently, the couple issued a 2020 live record titled partNERSHIp, which was recorded at Big Basin Vineyards in Saratoga, California. The couple has now invited their daughter Lauren to join them in a new trio, which is aptly titled The Nershis.

Greensky Bluegrass has collaborated with Holly Bowling on numerous occasions over the years. She appears on the band’s latest album 25 and joined them on their EP, The Iceland Sessions, among many other instances.

Flash forward to a few minutes just after Los Lobos performed a 100-minute dazzler on a sold-out, Saturday night at the Narrows. Backstage, guitarist and singer David Hidalgo recalls the moments, earlier in the evening, when the band was drawing up the setlist. “We said, let’s make it a rock show.” Rock show it was.

If the sights, sounds and especially the smells of a big ol' state fair are characterized by too much of a muchness—e.g., fried everything, butter art and death-spewing tractor pulls—then this instrumental trio turns down the excess to a more sane setting of, say, beguiling funhouse mirrors (with the occasional two-headed barnyard denizen) on State Fête, their first document of spontaneous live studio composery. Drummer-percussionist Billy Martin, keyboardist-saxophonist Matt Glassmeyer and guitarist Jonathan Goldberger are all veteran miners of improv gold as members of combos both overground and underground. Their bios are as extended as their instrumental techniques—and that's sayin' something.
