Sometime during set break, Rick Mitarotonda realized the band needed to make a call. The clock was rapidly ticking toward 10 p.m., and the singer/ guitarist, and the rest of the extended Goose organization, had a feeling they weren’t going to make Madison Square Garden’s 11:30 p.m. curfew. “We had a decent amount of time to do two 90-minute sets and an encore,” he says in early July, four days after his group’s headlining debut at the New York arena. “We cut maybe one thing, but we pretty much played what we had landed on. Then, we got off stage after the first set and realized it had been like two hours and the conversation started—‘What’s this gonna look like if we go late?’ And we ended up blowing past curfew.”

New Documentary The Beatle and The Bass Pieces Together Disappearance and Return of Paul McCartney’s Höfner 500/1
The tale of Paul McCartney’s vanished bass is being told in a forthcoming documentary. The instrument of interest is a Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, which was taken from the musician in 1972 and was only returned to its rightful owner last year. Before its disappearance, it was used on early Beatles recordings, such as “Twist and Shout,” “Love Me Do,” “All My Loving,” and other classic examples from the group’s bubblegum pop era.
We’ve unearthed a complete Grateful Dead “Puzzle Train” backstage pass set, designed by Anthony Reonegro and printed by Otto. The passes link together into a rolling skeleton circus train, one of the most creative and beloved sets created. These passes are original, authentic, and unused, straight from the archive of Robbie Taylor, the Dead’s longtime stage and production manager who kept the magic running behind the curtain.
The Puzzle Train set is one of 40+ original Grateful Dead backstage pass sets in a larger collection spanning 1983–1991. Each of these rare artifacts of tour history are preserved in original, authentic, and unused condition.
