A few years ago, Will Epstein felt it was time to fully embrace his given name. “I was starting to put out music in all the different guises I work in. I’m a saxophone player and I do a lot of improvised music, and I do a lot of film-score work,” the New York-bred, Woodstock, N.Y.-based musician says in February, shortly after the release of his sophomore set for Fat Possum Records, Yeah, mostly. “They all occupy different spaces and different communities of people in my life, but they also all make up who I am—or at least who I purport to be in my output. I wanted them all to be in direct communication with each other and working under different monikers, for everything felt insincere. And the most natural thing was to have everything under my name and accept that this is who I am—this is what I’m doing—and let it live there.”

The album is an outgrowth of their recent “rave shows” and follows their 2023 set The Silver Cord, which leaned in a more electronic-dance-music direction. The project’s exact release date has not been announced yet.

For more than half a century, Bob Weir stood at the center of American music, a founding member of the Grateful Dead whose rhythm guitar work, distinctive baritone, and restless creative spirit helped define one of the most enduring legacies in rock history. Yet he was so much more than that as well. He was not only an inspiring artist, he was an inviting presence. He was a beloved figure and friend for millions of fans, to whom he was “Bobby.” Relix's 132-page softcover edition pays tribute to this endearing and enduring musician.

On Tuesday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Jack Antonoff staged a partial Steel Train regrouping during a show with his popular rock band Bleachers. The ensemble, who were profiled on the cover of Relix a few years ago, first headlined MSG in the fall of 2024 and are now touring in support of their fifth album, Everyone for Ten Minutes. Making the MSG show a true family affair, Antonoff also invited out his father, Rick Antonoff, to play acoustic guitar near the end of the show, much like he did at Jack’s first Garden show almost two years ago.
