This past weekend, Oteil & Friends made their way through the Northeast. After spending Thursday evening on the Brooklyn Bowl stage, the ensemble continued down the highway, arriving at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. on Friday, May 15, where they welcomed special guests Leslie Mendelson. The group followed suit on Saturday, May 16, by bringing out Allman Brothers Band founding member Jaimoe for select songs during their time at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

On May 16, the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco served as the setting for Wavy Gravy’s 90th birthday celebration. The counterculture symbol–who emceed Woodstock [where he gave his famed “breakfast in bed” speech and initiated the “please” force], filled the role of the Grateful Dead’s official jester, in addition to providing compassionate giveback through do-good initiatives–was honored by friends and a rotating lineup of musical guests on Saturday.

Music on the Mountain returned for its third-annual special benefit festival over the weekend. Presented by The Phoenix and supporting Trey Anastasio’s Divided Sky Foundation, the musical centerpiece of Divided Sky’s new BIG Weekend brought sets from some of the jam world’s foremost acts to the Jackson Gore Village of Ludlow, Vt.’s Okemo Mountain on May 16.
DelFest’s bluegrass heart meets the Grateful Dead songbook on DelFest Does Dead, a live 2-LP vinyl featuring 10 interpretations captured across DelFest 2025 (May 22–25, 2025), in Cumberland, MD. The result is a front-to-back journey of Grateful Dead covers filtered through Appalachia, high-lonesome harmonies, and hot-rod string band energy, mixed to be played loud.

Widespread Panic have added a new appearance to their live itinerary. During their pursuit West, the ensemble will follow up after their two-night stand at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., June 27-28, at Snow King Mountain in Jackson, Wyo., on Sunday, July 5. The last time the band performed at the aforementioned venue was July 19, 2006. Their forthcoming appearance will close a significant gap in regional dates, having previously played in Atla, Wyo., over July 4th Weekend 2013.

Paul McCartney Helps Close Saturday Night Live Season 51 with “Days We Left Behind,” “Band on the Run” and “Coming Up” Encore
The weekend tradition of turning on the television, catching some laughs and a couple of songs, continued on May 16 by way of Saturday Night Live’s season 51 closer. Hosted by cast alumnus Will Ferrell, the program also saw the return of another familiar face: Sir Paul McCartney, who served as the episode’s musical guest, performing three songs from different decades of his sweeping career. The SNL appearance represented McCartney’s first since 2012, and brought his total to five.

Eggy hit the road again last week to set off the next leg of their spring tour. After returning from a few weeks off with a home state show in Hartford, Conn. and two thrilling sets at Goose’s second annual Viva El Gonzo destination festival, the indie-jam quartet lit into another extended series of dates with a double-header at Portsmouth, N.H.’s 3S Artspace on May 14 and 15. While their kickoff let the band break ground, they struck the mother lode on Friday with a fistful of track resurrections and a new original.

Levitation has unveiled the initial artist lineup for its 2026 festival. From Sept. 10-13, the 18-year staple of Austin, Texas’ psych, punk, electronica and alt-rock scene will revive its original format after a year at Palmer Events Center, shifting back to a citywide celebration. This year’s first dispatch details the participating venues of the Downtown Red River district – including Stubb’s, Mohawk, 29th St Ballroom, Hotel Vegas, Elysium, 13th Floor, and a “new expanded two-stage layout at Radio/East,” presumably operating as the main stage – and the first slate of performers.

The T.J. Martell Foundation will present its Lifetime Music Industry Award to Coran Capshaw, Founder of Red Light Management, at its 51st annual New York Honors Gala. Returning to New York’s Cipriani 42nd Street on Sept. 15, the music industry’s foremost charitable foundation for cancer research will honor the distinguished industry leader’s professional achievements and philanthropic commitments as the centerpiece of its primary annual fundraising event.

Dogs in a Pile have planted its tee and lined up a drive for their fourth annual long strange round of golf benefiting the nonprofit Rae of Light Foundation, which “provides scholarships for students seeking secondary education and also music lessons for youth.” The event will take place on Monday, August 24, at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Lakewood, N.J. The announcement arrived ahead of members' participation in the Music On The Mountain weekend in Ludlow, Vt.

Three decades after The Smashing Pumpkins released their 1995 third studio album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the project endures as the cornerstone of their legacy and source of some of their biggest hits. This fall, they’ll honor the record with the Rat in a Cage Tour, making 27 stops across the US and Canada from Sept. 30 to Nov. 12. Each show will feature “two unique sets celebrating Mellon Collie at 30 & nearly four decades of unruly hits & dark treasures.”
