Mike Gordon made a surprise appearance with noted singer-songwriter Darrell Scott at Boulder, CO’s eTown Hall last night. The bassist, who is in town for Phish’s annual three-show Labor Day weekend run at Commerce City, CO’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, emerged at the end of Scott’s first set for Townes Van Zandt’s “White Freightliner Blues” and Johnny Cash’s “Big River.” Then, partway through Scott’s second set, eTown founder and Hot Rize bassist Nick Forster emerged on guitar for “Colorado” and remained on stage as Gordon returned for “It’s The Whiskey That Eases The Pain,” Hank Williams’ “Weary Blues From Waiting,” “Born To Fly” and “Wayfaring Pilgrim.”

Paul Simon will release a new live album drawn from his recent Quiet Celebration tour on October 9 via Owl Records and Legacy Recordings. Simply titled Paul Simon: The Quiet Celebration Concert, the two-hour live document will be available as a 3 LP vinyl, 2 CD set as well as across all digital music platforms and via a variety of online streaming partners. The release’s lead track, a version of “Under African Skies” featuring a duet with Simon’s wife Edie Brickell, has already been made available.

Woods have confirmed that this will be the final year that they will host their annual Woodsist Festival at Accord, NY’s Arrowood Farms. Though the festival began in Brooklyn in 2009 and was held in California for several years, it has been an Arrowood mainstay since 2019.

Mount Pleasant, NC will soon be home to a theater named after The Avett Brothers. As reported by the Charlotte Business Journal¸ a group of investors and historic preservationists in Cabarrus County have raised $3.75 million to renovate an 80-year-old abandoned movie theater, the Paula Theater, which has sat empty for decades. If all goes according to plan, then The Avett Theater is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027.

It is not remotely hyperbolic to say that singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers’ latest album, Lost Weekend, is one of indie rock’s most hyped-up and breathlessly anticipated releases of 2026. That’s certainly thanks to Bridger’s music—clever, deeply emotional songwriting set to subdued and haunting folk—but also the lack thereof: Lost Weekend is just her third album, and her first solo release in six years. In some ways, she’s been everywhere—winning a Grammy as part of boygenius, collaborating with SZA, opening for Taylor Swift—but this third album is years in the making.
