Phish closed out their five-night run at New York’s Madison Square Garden yesterday, celebrating their 1996 era with an instant-classic show that contained several notable bust outs and extended jams. The year 1996 was a transitional period for Phish, as they settled into arenas around the country and continued to move from the once tightly woven compositions that defined their earlier works to a more traditional, heartfelt style of songwriting. Beginning with their fall tour and their Halloween cover of Talking Heads’ highly rhythmic Remain in Light LP, Phish also began to explore a more groove-driven approach to improvisation in late 1996, hinting at the cow-funk style they would fully embrace the following year. Like at previous MSG shows, Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon were also dressed in clothes from the era when they took the stage yesterday.

Julian Lage has swapped back in as the guitarist in Bob Dylan's band. Last night, the noted musician performed with Dylan throughout his set at Wilmington, NC's Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park, replacing Jad Tariq.

Last night, Joe Bonamassa and Gov’t Mule kicked off a joint tour at Vienna, VA’s Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Each act offered a full set and, as many hoped, they also opened up their stages to some cross-pollination. Gov’t Mule played first and invited out Bonamassa for a memorable take on “Statesboro Blues,” the famed Blind Willie McTell tune that The Allman Brothers Band made their own decades ago, during their performance. Then, during Bonamassa’s portion of the show, Gov’t Mule singer/guitarist Warren Haynes returned the favor, emerging for a cover Billy Cobham’s “Stratus.”
Cats Under the Stars is Jerry Garcia's fourth solo studio record and the first to be presented as the Jerry Garcia Band. Released in 1978, the album introduced an all-new repertoire including the Garcia-Hunter penned favorites "Rubin and Cherise," "Gomorrah," "Palm Sunday," and the album's title track. Garcia often cited Cats Under the Stars as his favorite of all his albums, saying, "That's the one that I'm happiest with, from every point of view in which I operate on that record."

The National have confirmed their only 2026 show. For their first performance since the end of 2024, the New York-via-Ohio musicians will play a special "and friends" set at San Sebastián, Spain's Kursaal Donostia on October 18.The show is part the AB100 weekend and celebration curated by The National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner.

Hermanos Gutiérrez | Live From Relix
Acclaimed instrumental duo Hermanos Gutiérrez - brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez - stopped by the Relix studio to perform two songs from their highly anticipated upcoming album, Los Ojos del Cóndor, arriving September 25 via Easy Eye Sound.

The Disco Biscuits spent this past weekend making the rounds in their home state of Pennsylvania. Each of the three shows was a festive, multi-band bill and, throughout the run, the Philadelphia-bred band both welcomed some special guests and busted out some long-shelved songs.

Umphrey's McGee singer/guitarist Brendan Bayliss has formally addressed his band's recent lineup changes. As previously reported, last year Kris Myers stepped away from Umphrey's McGee after 22 years and was replaced by Scotty Zwang and, earlier this month, guitarist Jake Cinninger officially left the group following an extended sabbatical. His departure has left Umphrey's McGee as a quintet, as they were from 1998, when Andy Farag first joined, until 2000, when Cinninger signed on.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have shared the title track off their twenty-eighth album, Alien Metal, which is slated for release later this summer on p(doom) records. Along with the track, the group has dropped “Alien Metal”’s accompanying, Jason Galea-designed visualizer.
