Last night, Phish opened their five-night summer run at Madison Square Garden. These shows represent the band’s 92nd through 96th performances at the venue. The group has emphasized these numbers and even issued a throwback digital version of their ’90s newsletter the Doniac Schvice. With this in mind, plenty of folks have anticipated that these five dates, will contain 1990s reference points and last night’s show saw this come to pass (including the lack of sleeves on Trey Anastasio’s shirt).

Last April, Killphonic Records released Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young Vol 1. On that recording, a number of celebrated artists covered Neil Young songs, with proceeds benefiting The Bridge School. Participants included: Mumford & Sons (“Harvest”), The Lumineers (“Sugar Mountain”), The Doobie Brothers with Allison Russell (“Comes A Time”), Eddie Vedder (“Needle and The Damage Done”), Sharon Van Etten (“Here We Are In The Years”), Stephen Marley (“Old Man”) and Brandi Carlile (“Philadelphia”). Since the first album was titled Vol. 1. another record was anticipated.

Following five sets over two nights at Red Rocks this weekend, the String Cheese Incident made their way to Salt Lake City for a show at Red Butte Amphitheatre last night. The band will remain active with shows over the next four days before wrapping up the current leg of their Just Keep Spinning Tour in Seattle on Sunday.

The Music as Medicine Neuroscience Research Initiative has put out a call for grant applications. The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health established the project in partnership with Mickey Hart, Jim Weiss of Real Chemistry and the Renée Fleming Foundation. Grants of $100,000 will be issued to scientists studying how music or music-based therapies affect the brain.

Dave Matthews Band returned to the stage last night at Darien Lake Amphitheater in Darien Center, NY. The group had been off since Saturday because Tuesday’s show at Jones Beach was postponed due to weather considerations until July 29.

On October 9, Pete Francis will release his new album, Homemade. This will be the first studio record from the Disptach co-founder since 2023’s PTRN SKY!. That album found Francis exploring an ambitious mix of drums loops, synth sounds and electronic textures. While Francis continues to evolve, on Homemade he also revisits the roots-based music that has been so important to him since the outset of his career.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, the annual three-day free concert in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park has announced its initial artists. This will be the 26th installment of the event, set to take place from Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 4.

Originally written by Blaze Foley as a critique of the Reagan administration, Price recently released her version as a protest against the political figures and concentrated wealth surrounding today's Trump administration.
