On Thursday, June 19, Billy Strings pulled into the Eaton Country Fairgrounds in Charlotte, Mich., for an appearance at the Charlotte Bluegrass Festival. During the single set delivery, the bandleader referred to his joint collection, Me/And/Dad, by evoking select content from the 2022 installment and bringing out one of his oldest collaborators, Dad, Terry Barber, for a four-song sit-in.

I’ll admit I was taken aback when, in the midst of a conversation with my longtime friend and cohort, Relix publisher Peter Shapiro, we realized that the Jammy Awards was about to turn 25. The event debuted at Irving Plaza on June 22, 2000, and continues to live on via YouTube clips, DVDs and quality anecdotes all around. (When I spoke with Grace Potter for this issue’s Track by Track, she brought it up and we riffed on some of her Jammys memories from The Theater at Madison Square Garden where the show took place during the final few years.)

Guerilla Toss Tap Trey Anastasio for “Red Flag to Angry Bull,” Previewing Stephen Malkmus-Produced You’re Weird Now
Guerilla Toss have returned with “Red Flag to Angry Bull,” the second preview from their sixth studio album, You’re Weird Now. Set to release on Sept. 12 via Sub Pop, the New York-based avant-garde psych-punk ensemble’s latest offering makes good use of their ever-expanding Rolodex of high-profile fans: Trey Anastasio shreds on the new single and provided his Vermont recording facility The Barn for studio sessions, while Stephen Malkmus provides backing vocals and produced the album.

On July 3-6, the High Sierra Music Festival is set to return to Quincy, Calif., ahead of the event, the producer, Dave Margulies, warns of potential for cancellation due to record-low ticket sales. Marguiles shared his concerns regarding the event’s current trajectory to local media outlet, The Plumas Sun, telling them that 2,000 ticket sales are still needed to make the occasion profitable.
