Sly Stone, the soul innovator and genre-disrupting bandleader of Sly & The Family Stone, has passed away today at 82. The legendary artist’s death was announced in a statement from his family, who expressed their eternal love for the man who shook the foundations of the music world and inspired generations of devotees who carry on his sound and message.

On Saturday, June 7, Bruce Springsteen turned up for his second night on the Anfield stadium stage in Liverpool, England. The performance occurred as part of the musician’s ongoing The Land of Hopes and Dreams Tour, which commenced its European leg in mid-May. During this weekend’s second and final concert in the UK, the bandleader brought out longtime friend and local maven, Sir Paul McCartney.

It was quite an intense few weeks for Grahame Lesh. On March 14-17, he performed four shows at Port Chester, N.Y.’s Capitol Theater to commemorate what would have been his father’s 85th birthday. Grahame served as band leader for Unbroken Chain: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Phil Lesh, which took place less than five months after Phil’s passing.

On Friday night, Billy Strings pulled into the Chicago area for the latest stop on his ongoing Spring Tour. The first of two performances on the Allstate Arena stage in Rosemont, Ill. arrived after the bluegrass golden boy flexed his chops with jam stalwarts Widespread Panic during an extensive sit-in that culminated as a full second set and encore team-up on Thursday, June 5. Strings’ concerts in the Land of Lincoln incorporated bust-outs and teases that accentuated the group’s arsenal of originals and covers.

Widespread Panic have announced its impending return to the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, Wis. The band posted to social media, sharing that they will perform at the Midwest location over three nights, Oct. 24-26. The newly added dates fill out part of the band’s fall schedule; their Badger State gigs will occur after participation in their already-announced Mempho Music Festival appearances, Oct. 3 and 4.

On Thursday night, Mike Gordon made a surprise appearance with Bob Wagner and Friends at Burlington, VT’s famed Nectar’s. The night as billed, which benefited Phish’s WaterWheel foundation, also featured bassist Josh Weinstein (Kat Wright), drummer/keyboardist Jano Rix (The Wood Brothers), drummer/percussionist Corey Wilhelm (Bombino), drummer Dan Ryan (Madaila), trumpeter Connor Young and saxophonist Jake Whitesell.

With 144 days remaining until Halloween, Connecticut-bred Eggy, comprised of members Alex Bailey (drums, vocals), Jake Brownstein (guitar, vocals), Mike Goodman (bass, vocals), and Dani Battat (keys, vocals), has announced its plans for the fall holiday. The group shared that on October 31 and November 1, it will perform at Denver’s Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom.
