RECAP
Hours before Golden Gate Park’s Polo Field opened its gates to welcome thousands of eager Deadheads in celebration of 60 years of Grateful Dead music, Grahame Lesh—son of founding bassist Phil Lesh—was gathering a devoted following of his own across town at Pier 48 in San Francisco. The occasion marked the opening night of the three-part Heart of Town series, a sold-out night that spotlighted some of the jam scene’s most inspired players as they delivered deep cuts and cherished covers from the Dead’s broad and storied catalog.

Circles Around The Sun Announce Interludes For The Dead, Vol. 2 to Coincide with Dead & Company’s Golden Gate Celebration
Instrumentalist psych-experimentalist, Circles Around The Sun, have announced the second chapter of their pivotal legacy soundtrack, Interludes for the Dead: Volume II, due in full on November 7, and debuting this weekend over the speakers at Dead & Company’s highly anticipated three-night Golden Gate Park run in San Francisco. As an initial preview, the band shares their initial singles, the 11+ minute “Golden Boots” and “Charleston Choogle,” which clocks in at over 20 minutes, providing fans with a half hour of songs that summon the spirit of their debut release with Neal Casal.
Singer/songwriter Zandi Holup has the kind of voice that instantly cuts to the heart’s deepest corners: enchanting, enigmatic, profoundly world-weary but radiant with raw feeling. After building grassroots following by sharing her demos and song fragments online, Holup landed a deal with Big Loud Records and set to work on her debut album, Wildflower: a revelatory body of work born from embracing her singular eccentricity, ultimately bringing an incandescent beauty to the most painful of experiences. Holup joined forces with producer Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Wyatt Flores) on the record, captured during a month recording at Bear Creek Studios in the woods of northwest Washington. A mesmerizing performer, Holup has opened for the likes of country legend and Grand Ole Opry member Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Midland, and more. “It’s almost like my voice is the embodiment of who I am as a person, and when I sing, I feel like it’s my soul coming out,” Holup shares.

The latest shake up of drummageddon–2025’s mass exodus of backbeats from bands like Primus, The Who and Umphrey’s McGee–is a proper trade between Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails. Yesterday, July 30, Ilan Rubin jumped ship from the latter to join the former, while the former’s former member Josh Freese signed on to return to his previous posting in the latter. Through a roundabout process, both massive rock acts have been made whole by storied instrumentalists.
