Last night, The Black Keys kicked off a two-night stand at The Pinnacle in their adopted hometown of Nashville. Near the end of their set, The Black Keyes invited out another current Nashville star, Sturgill Simpson, for a cover of the Gladys Knight & the Pips classic “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.”
Few people realized Jerry Garcia was a serious visual artist until the early 1990s, when his abstract paintings and watercolors were licensed into the wildly successful “J. Garcia” necktie line — silk ties that smuggled his artwork into boardrooms, department stores, and Father's Day gift boxes across America, and became an unlikely fashion phenomenon. These 23 neckties come from that collection: the moment Garcia the painter quietly reached millions of people who'd never once been to a show.

Stephen Malkmus has confirmed a series of solo shows throughout Carlifornia. The Pavement frontman will hit the road in September, making stops at Ventura, CA’s Ventura Music Hall (9/1), Big Sur, CA’s Henry Miller Memorial Library (9/2), Sonoma, CA’s Gundlach Bundschu Winery (9/4) and Sacramento, CA’s Crest Theatre (9/5), before bringing things to a close at Santa Cruz, CA’s Rio Theatre (9/6).

Joe Pernice | Live From Relix
After hearing that MJ Lenderman and Waxahatchee put their own spin on a Scud Mountain Boys' tune, Joe Pernice decided to return the favor. The Scud Mountain Boys frontman and Pernice Brothers member stopped by the Relix office for an in-office session, performing two of his own songs and a heartfelt cover of MJ Lenderman's "Under Control." It's a full-circle musical moment that highlights the mutual admiration between two generations of songwriters.

It was inevitable that Oteil Burbridge and Lamar Williams Jr. would find kinship together. The Allman Brothers Band’s low-end runs through both musicians: Williams is the son of ’70s ABB bassist Lamar Williams; Burbridge assumed that role in the late ’90s. With The Offering, Burbridge and Williams tap into that familial energy for a collaborative album of originals that nod to those roots but sprout up new branches in surprising ways. Most notably, Burbridge plays banjo throughout The Offering and most of these songs started on banjo nearly a decade ago with Williams adding lyrics to Burbridge’s rhythmic melodies.

Last night, The Black Crowes’ Southern Hospitality tour stopped at Catoosa, OK’s The Hard Rock Live. The reactivated group’s current run has featured a number of bust outs and cover debuts and the trend continued yesterday. A few songs into their extended set, the Crowes revived the Three Snakes and One Charm song “One Mirror Too Many” for the first time since April 23, 2013, before the members of the group parted ways for several years. From there, the ensemble moved right into the next song off that 1996 LP, “Blackberry,” which they had not played live since August 14, 2013.
