It was around 3 a.m., over two years ago, when David Shaw woke up in a panic. The now 43-year-old musician, best known as the frontman for next-generation New Orleans favorites The Revivalists, has famously stayed clear of alcohol and hard drugs for going on two decades. And yet, in the middle of the night, he couldn’t shake the set of charged lyrics that came running through his head: “Well, I’m so bored, so bored of being sober/ Maybe I’ll go downtown, to some bar down on Decatur.”

Bob Dylan has shuffled his band once again. As previously reported, Dylan surprised fans by bringing on Julian Lage to replace Doug Lancio—who had been on the road with The Bard since the Rough and Rowdy Ways World Wide Tour opened in November of 2021—for a June 17 gig at California’s Santa Barbara Bowl. Lage and Bob Britt, a member of Dylan’s band since October 2019, shared guitar duties until June 26, at which point Britt departed the tour after making a cryptic Facebook post that seemed to confirm that he quit.

Leon Bridges will release his next album, Happiness Anytime, on September 26, via Columbia Records. Produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of the British trio Jungle, Happiness Anytime is said to be a return to the “warmth of [his breakthrough] Coming Home” while “embracing the groove and adventurous spirit of his celebrated collaborations with Khruangbin.” Bridges has been slowly rolling out the album with pop up performances in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, Montreux Jazz Festival and London’s The Jazz Cafe.

Org Music, in partnership with Westbound Records, will reissue Funkadelic’s groundbreaking 1971 masterpiece Maggot Brain on September 11. The newly remastered edition, cut directly from the analog master tapes, will be available on vinyl, CD, SACD (Super Audio CD), cassette and digital formats.
