Mayor of Nashville, Freddie O’Connell, is recognizing the self-proclaimed Mayor of East Nashville, Todd Snider, in a big way. April 20 will now be observed as Todd Snider Day, highlighting the late musician’s influence on the east side of Music City and the creativity and charisma he exuded throughout his career. Nashville’s mayoral proclamation comes on the heels of Hard Working Americans’ 2013 archival cover of Gil Scott-Heron’s “Work For Peace,” which arrived on Friday for the first time on digital streaming.

On Friday, April 10, Billy Strings emerged at Enmarket Arena for the first of two nights in Savannah, Ga. The Peach State location represented the third stop on the musicians’ ongoing spring outing, and a fitting place to unleash another round of first-time originals. Like previous concerts on this specific tour, the high-speed picker and his band of equally gifted accompanists continued their current performance trend of offering a glimpse of their forthcoming album through singular concert debuts: one new number each night on stage.

For years, Billy Strings fans have filled arenas and festivals knowing they were witnessing something special, and now those moments have a permanent home. Live Vol. 1 is Billy's debut live album, pressed on double 180g vinyl and released in partnership with Reprise Records. Spanning four sides, the record captures the full arc of a Billy Strings show: the fiery bluegrass precision of "Dust in a Baggie," a sprawling 13-minute journey through "Away From The Mire," and an epic 21-minute centerpiece in "Turmoil & Tinfoil." This is the one fans have been waiting for.

In June 2023 Greensky Bluegrass traveled to rural Iceland for a recording session at Flóki Studios. The splendor of the surroundings was amplified by a natural phenomenon whereby the sun never quite set, instead it lingered just below the horizon. Joining the band on this journey, with the goal of tracking the visual spectacle and its impact on the group’s creative process, was René Huemer, the longtime photographer for Phish and the Dave Matthews Band. However, rather than solely shooting still images, Huemer and his partner, Chérie Hansson, were on hand to create a documentary about the experience.

On April 10, musical twosome Gillian Welch and David Rawlings took the stage at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. The concert served as the midsection of a three-night venue-specific stand for the ensemble, who are currently honoring the Grateful Dead’s songbook with particular emphasis on their early ’80s acoustic chapter via the double live LP, Reckoning. On the road, the pair has welcomed support from standup bassist Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers), who helped them during their Friday night debut, a first-ever cover of the Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie.”
