On Friday, March 13, Tedeschi Trucks Band retook their place at New York’s Beacon Theatre in continuation of their venue-specific residency. Night three of ten marked one of live music’s most sought-after returns, particularly for deadheads. After the Thursday, March 12, sale of Jerry Garcia’s custom-made Tiger guitar, which was a part of Jim Irsay’s personal collection, auctioned by Christie’s, and sold to Bobby Tseitlin of Family Guitars, Derek Trucks was allowed to awaken the beast and make the instrument growl again.

On March 15, the final installment of Unbroken Chain: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Phil Lesh occurred at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. Last night’s concert coincided with bassist Phil Lesh’s 86th birthday. It continued the venue’s time-honored tradition of marking the occasion through select songs and on-stage festivities in recognition of the Grateful Dead’s melodic backbone. During Grahame Lesh and Friends’ final night on stage during the East Coast concert series, the group helped assert some sage advice: Never miss a Sunday show.
Produced with the authorization of Ice Nine Publishing and the Petersen estate, this broadside was printed by the Grateful Dead Archive at UC Santa Cruz in honor of the Bobby Petersen Panel at the 17th Grateful Dead Scholars Caucus, the first academic conference paper ever devoted to his work. It is a document with serious institutional provenance. The lyric it presents needs no introduction. "Unbroken Chain" is Petersen's masterwork, a sweeping philosophical meditation on human connection that has earned a permanent place in the Deadhead canon. To own this broadside is to hold all of that at once: Petersen's literary genius, the Scholars Caucus that finally gave it its due, and the living tradition of a band that never stops giving back.

Live Nation’s antitrust trial resumed today after a proposed settlement with the Department of Justice failed to result in deals with the wide majority of the co-filing states. One week after the Justice Department announced its tentative agreement, under circumstances that initially prompted several states to call for a mistrial, 36 state attorneys general assumed leadership of the suit, endeavoring to convince the Manhattan jury that Live Nation and Ticketmaster’s dominance in live entertainment markets had been sustained by anticompetitive business practices harming artists, venues, smaller promoters and fans.
