On September 23, 2018, Oteil Burbridge brought a version of his solo group to the Borderland Festival in East Aurora, NY. The bassist’s band for this appearance included guitarists John Kadlecik and Scott Metzger, drummer John Kimock and Oteil’s older brother Kofi on keyboards and flute. The five musicians delivered a set of Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead-themed material that was memorable in the moment and carried additional resonance because Kofi Burbridge passed away five months later.

Goose Push An Hour Past Curfew During Madison Square Garden Debut with Everything Must Go Horn Section
On Saturday night, the genre-blending, improvisational seekers, Goose, achieved a significant milestone by headlining and selling out at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The prestigious feat was a testament to their growth, having previously taken the stage in November 2024 at the SOULSHINE benefit concert, where they shared the stage with Robert Randolph, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, and Dave Matthews.

On Sunday, June 29, Rod Stewart greeted a horde of fans at Pilton, England’s Worthy Farm for his highly anticipated set at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival. Stewart’s performance saw the rock and pop global superstar reviving the highlights of his six-decade reign, spanning from his roots in London’s ‘60s blues rock explosion, through his disco heyday, to his current focus on honoring the classics that inspired him. To support his glance back at his catalog, Stewart welcomed a sit-in from Ronnie Wood, who joined his Faces bandmate for an exhilarating revival of “Stay with Me.”

On Saturday, June 28, Phish stepped into the spotlight in Austin, Texas, to conclude their two-night engagement at the Moody Center. In the course of the foundational jamband’s first appearances within city limits since 2010, the Live Music Capital of the World certainly earned its nickname as the quartet tore through Texas-size treatments of longtime fan favorites. Following Friday’s sprawling versions of “Fuego” and “Golden Age,” the group continued their streak of titanic jams by spending a half-hour of blissed-out exploration in “Ruby Waves.”

Over the weekend, Widespread Panic returned to Morrison, Colo.’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre to continue their tradition of unmissable summer stagings against stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. With their three shows from June 27-29, the storied Southern jam ensemble expanded their record-holding tally to 75 consecutive sold-out performances at the hallowed venue. To mark the occasion, the band packed their setlists with bust-outs, rare covers, live debuts and extended sit-ins from legendary keyboardist Chuck Leavell every night.

From July 31 to Aug. 2, the San Francisco Giants and Relix will join forces to present Heart of Town, a three-night psychedelic, multi-sensory concert series celebrating the music and legacy of the Grateful Dead in their original San Francisco stomping grounds. Hosted by torchbearer Grahame Lesh & Friends, the event will channel the spirit of the early Merry Prankster Acid Tests, with immersive production and a vibrant Shakedown Street-style vendor village transforming the ballpark into a modern-day psychedelic carnival. Featuring a hand-picked lineup of the Dead’s most devoted musical descendants and scene stalwarts, Heart of Town offers a living, breathing tribute to the enduring power of the jam. Tickets are on sale now.

On March 23, 1974, the Grateful Dead performed a one-off gig at the famed Cow Palace just outside San Francisco, which was billed as “The Sound Test.” This performance marked the debut of the group’s new audio reinforcement system that would become known as the Wall of Sound. The Dead’s sonic sculpture was scalable in size but at its peak, it stood over three stories high and weighed 75 tons. It encompassed 600 speakers and drew 28,000 watts of power.
